FAQ

How long have you been painting?
I have been painting with 1Shot since 2001, and I painted my first guitar in 2009.

What kind of paint and brushes do you use?
I use 1-Shot brand sign-painter's enamel exclusively. It has a 24 hour dry time, is very durable, and holds a shine for a long time.I pinstripe with a Mack size 000 brush, and letter and paint generally with an assortment of liner brushes from various art supply stores.

How do you decide what to paint?
You can bring me your own specific design ideas, your own general ideas, or you can say "do whatever". Its your guitar, I don't paint it for me, I paint it for you, so speak up. The majority of my customers have a general idea in mind, and I run with it. This can include (but not be limited to) anything from pinstriping, lettering or cartoons, to logos, names, characters, graphics, flames, or any combination thereof. If you can dream it, I can paint it.

Will the paint affect the sound of my guitar?
I can not definitively state that it does not affect the sound, but from talking to many of my customers, I have never heard anyone mention that it had noticeably affected any sound quality or playability at all.

How long will you take to paint my guitar?
As they say, you can't rush art. I usually request 1-3 weeks for a typical guitar paint job. This allows me time to plan, prep, paint and then let it set for a few days to ensure that the paint is set properly. If you are someone who gigs often, I have no problem working with you to get the job done between gigs.

Do I need to take the strings off?
If the artwork will not be near the strings at all, it is okay to leave them on. In larger scale projects, or if the art will be on the back of the guitar, it is much easier for me to have the strings off.

How do I get my guitar to you?
I prefer customer drop off and pickup, which is scheduled when you make an appointment. I can come get it if necessary, but I have to add a small travel fee if your not too close. If you have a hard case, please bring it, if not, no problem.

My drummer knocked my guitar over and scratched your paint, can you fix it?
I understand, it happens. My paint is tough, but constant scratching with a pick, falling into a wall, or an unprotected ride in the back seat can chip it off. I can usually touch up any chips or scratches that may occur. I'll happily take care of minor touch-ups, but try to take care of em!

My guitar has a chip in the body, can you color match it?
I don't strictly paint graphics on guitars, I can also use my paint to color match the body (painted or stained) and touch up any chips or cracks.

Can you paint the whole body of my guitar?
No, I do not have a spray booth, or equipment to properly paint a guitar body. I only offer hand-painting services.

Can you paint my violin/cello/bass/drums/hotrod/motorcycle?
Yes! If it will hold still, I can, and will paint it.

Can I ship you a guitar for paint?
Absolutely, but you will need to pay for shipping costs both ways.

Do you play guitar?
I can play the first four notes to an Offspring song.

Is all your work for sale?
A lot of my work is commission based, but just about everything that is will be listed in the "For Sale" category at the top of the page on the right. The size and price will be listed accordingly. That price always includes shipping cost in the US. International shipping an additional $5.00, unless otherwise noted. Everything for sale is first-come, first-served, so e-mail me if you see something you like!
